School children in Guatemala

Have you done any good in the world today?

VRI is now accepting applications for retired persons from the optical field for screening students in the schools and preparing glasses in the lab. The school year is from January 15 through October 15. The screening of the students and teachers will be from 8:00am until 12:00am at the respective schools, with the glasses prepared, subsequently, at the lab site.

Cathedral in La Antigua

Free time in the afternoons can be used for sightseeing or to study Spanish at one of the many Spanish Academies in La Antigua. With the aura of the Spanish colonies of the 1500's, La Antigua will charm you with its cobblestone streets and awe you with its ancient cathedrals.

The 6,000 students near La Antigua will be screened in the Pedro Bethancourt School for Girls, which is shown in the Pilot Project film. The remainder of the students (34,000) will be screened at other schools in the Sacatepéquez school district. One example of these schools is the elementary school in Aldea Santa Ana adjacent to our lab, shown below.
